The Writing Process …. each word at a time
I’m back at my writing bureau working on the second installment of the Of Social Standing series. The Hon. Emmett Rosland is my protagonist this time round and I’m enjoying delving into his hidden past.
The story takes up with Emmett Rosland in 1813 as he attempts to prove his innocence after finding himself the prime suspect in the fatal poisoning of opera singer, Maria De Londinium. As the evidence mounts against him, the Baron Bovingdon’s son is thrust from the revered halls of the courthouse into the disreputable world of criminal investigation. Fearing that he was the intended subject of the poisoning plot, Emmett immediately sets out to warn Annaliese Schmidt that the deranged Heir Schulze could be at large and seeking retribution. The former nemeses must work together to protect the ones they love and bring Maria De Londinium’s murderer to justice.
My Writing Process
I am a communicator. I talk, probably too much, I listen and I reflect. What could be a two minute exchange might be followed by anything up to a half hour of post communication analysis. I’m certainly not unusual in this practice. My writing often feels this way. I shoot from the hip and fill the page in a matter of minutes, only to pour hours into the in-depth editing process. Every word is scrutinized. Does it read well? Does it convey the emotions effectively? Does it say what I want it to?
I’m a few years into what I call the serious novel writing pastime. I call it a pastime as it is fairly apt. It has certainly passed my time. That and an energetic and wilful young daughter I should add. My biggest barrier has been time itself of course. What I would give to have endless hours to indulge in my passion of the literary world. Anyway, I’m rambling… a few years on and I have the first installment polished and ready to go after a long editing process. In the end I just had to be ruthless! Ever wanted to see somebody vacillate over a word or sentence for an absurd length of time? Look no further for I’m that lady!
